A battery storage system operates like a rechargeable phone, tablet, or laptop battery, but on a larger scale. Households use battery storage systems to be prepared for power outages.
Members with a battery storage system can get paid for using energy from their storage system and help to lower/shift electricity usage during times of peak demand. By utilizing your battery during high-demand periods, you help ensure a reliable power supply.
By enrolling in the Battery Program, members will receive a one-time enrollment incentive and an ongoing incentive! Members will receive $150 per kilowatt (kw) for a battery’s average contribution during summer events.
Different batteries can contribute different amounts during events, and your battery must perform in accordance to your interconnection agreement.
How It Works
The Battery Program is free to join and completely voluntary.

SIGN UP
By enrolling, you sync your battery with the program. This allows your cooperative to call on your battery remotely only on the peak days when the energy grid is strained.

You’ll be notified by email confirming you’re enrolled in the program.

SIT BACK AND SAVE
On peak days, you’ll be notified when it is planned to utilize your battery. Your battery system will perform automatically and will return to regular setting and begin recharging when the peak passes. You’ll have peace of mind knowing your cooperative will not discharge your battery below 20% state of charge.

RE‑ADJUST WHENEVER YOU LIKE
If a certain peak event day and time doesn’t work for you, members can override any planned adjustment through the devices app. This will impact the ongoing incentive which is based on an average electrical reduction of all events.

The Battery Program helps lower the cost of a battery by providing both enrollment and ongoing incentives.
Enrollment
Enrollment incentives reduce the cost to you of the battery or installation. Members qualify for an upfront incentive at the time of enrollment of $150 per kilowatt (kW) of nameplate power capacity, up to $1,000.
Ongoing
Each year you are enrolled in the program, incentives are paid seasonally based on how your battery performs over the course of the peak event days. Your ongoing incentive is based on the average demand reduction of $150 per kilowatt (kW), up to $1,000.
Enroll in the program
Open the battery app or log in online, and enroll in the program from the battery provider’s site.

To enroll your battery in your cooperative program, you need to meet the following criteria:
- You are a cooperative member
- Your battery is connected to a building and is installed according to utility requirements.
- Your battery is made by one of the approved manufacturers
- Your battery performs according to your interconnection agreement
No. Batteries in this program are configured for non-export operation. During peak events, the battery reduces electricity drawn from the grid by supplying energy for your home. Incentives are based on the battery's ability to offset household usage during these events.
There are two levels of incentives, both are based on the capacity of the battery of $150 per kilowatt (kW) up to $1,000 and both are paid out and mailed to the participants address.
Incentives are based on battery performance during peak event periods. Because the program uses a non-export configuration, batteries must discharge energy for use within the home. Members whose systems cannot fully utilize stored energy during event periods may earn lower performance-based incentives.
No. The Home Battery and Thermostat programs are designed to provide similar grid and energy management benefits. Because both programs provide incentives for reducing or managing electric demand, participating in both would result in overlapping incentives for the same benefit. This helps ensure program funds are distributed fairly among members.
