ODEC Selects Mitsubishi to Supply Gas Turbines for Wildcat Point Project

Glen Allen, VA – Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC) has selected Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas, Inc. to supply 2 natural gas powered turbines and associated electric generators for installation at its Wildcat Point project.

Wildcat Point is ODEC’s proposed natural gas power plant that will be located in Cecil County, Maryland, adjacent to ODEC’s existing Rock Springs plant. The power plant will be one of the cleanest natural gas facilities of its size in Maryland and will generate approximately 1,000 megawatts, enough to power 390,000 homes in the region annually. The plant is expected to become operational in 2017.

According to Jack Reasor, president and chief executive officer of ODEC, “Selecting Mitsubishi as the gas turbine supplier for Wildcat Point is a great step forward in our project. Based on its position as a leader in power generation technology, we believe Mitsubishi is the right partner to help us supply reliable power through Wildcat Point.”

ODEC has experienced more than 26% growth in electricity sales over the last 10 years and expects additional growth over the next decade. Wildcat Point will provide ODEC’s 11 member distribution cooperatives a new source of reliable electricity, including 52,000 members on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
