Glen Allen, VA ― Virginia Lawyers Media has selected Lisa Johnson as one of the Influential Women of Virginia for 2012. Johnson is senior vice president and chief operating officer for Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC).
The Influential Women of Virginia program, in its fourth year, recognizes outstanding efforts of women in the Commonwealth who are making notable contributions to their chosen fields, their communities and society at large.
ODEC serves 11 electric-distribution cooperatives in Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. These customer-owned utilities provide power to more than 500,000 homes, farms and businesses. Johnson is responsible for all power supply and business operation activities for the not-for-profit energy provider.
Micheal Hern of LeClair Ryan, who nominated Johnson for the award, noted that, “In an industry heavily dominated by men, Lisa is able to bring a fresh perspective while offering strategic vision and a wealth of industry experience.”
Johnson joined ODEC in 2006 after serving as vice-president of Mirant Corporation and president of Mirant Mid-Atlantic LLC, where she was responsible for the corporation’s generation portfolio in the Greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
She said the best advice she ever received was to “trust your instincts,” and noted that her service on the board of the Oyster Recovery Partnership in Maryland stands out for having “fully embraced the concept of public/private partnership to support restoration of the Chesapeake Bay oyster population for both ecologic and economic purposes.”
Johnson and other Class of 2012 honorees will be celebrated at a gala luncheon on May 10 at the Richmond Marriott. The Influential Woman of the Year for 2012, to be voted on by the 2012 honorees themselves, will be announced at this event. The 2012 honorees will be profiled in a y May edition of Virginia Lawyers Weekly.
