Compensation & Benefits

More complete descriptions can be found in the Summary Plan Descriptions (“SPDs”) and/or the insurance booklets for the Plans. Please do not rely on the descriptions provided, the SPDs, or insurance booklets alone, as the legal documents applicable to each of the plans govern the operation of the plans, all rights to benefits, and serve as the authority for all decisions concerning benefits and other plan matters.

Educational Opportunities

We encourage maximum educational development of our employees to further professional advancement and increase contributions towards ODEC’s success. With this in mind, the full cost of tuition, textbooks, required cost-related supplies (not to exceed $100), and fees are paid with the appropriate approvals. Additionally, employees are encouraged to participate in business-related trade and professional associations with dues reimbursed.

Flexible Work Arrangements

ODEC offers employees, with the approval of their supervisor, the ability to adjust daily arrival and departure times within a specified range and two varieties of a compressed workweek.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

An EAP is offered at no cost to our employees. We recognize that, at times, all of us have troubles and concerns which we sometimes need outside help to resolve, because they may be affecting our health and/or work performance. We recognize this responsibility to our employees, but we also recognize our limits of involvement in our employees' personal lives. Since we want to help, and not intrude, we offer the EAP as a confidential source of support to our employees and their families.

Time Off Policies

ODEC recognizes the importance of families and the need for rest and relaxation. Our vacation policy allows employees to accrue vacation hours based on their years of experience, not on their years of service with ODEC. Our sick leave policy allows our employees to take sick time for not only caring for their own personal illness, but for the care of a dependent child, spouse, parent or spouse’s parent. ODEC offers ten paid holidays per year.

Health and Wellness Programs

We want our employees to live a healthy, balanced lifestyle. We offer an employee assistance program, health assessment surveys, assistance with health club membership dues, and a variety of wellness opportunities to assist our employees in maintaining or improving their health.

Community Service Volunteer Hours

ODEC recognizes "Concern for Community" as a guiding principle of our cooperative business model. As good corporate citizens we want to help enrich our communities. We, therefore, support our employees with community service volunteer hours in their efforts to support programs that positively impact the quality of life within the communities in which we live and work.

About Richmond

Ah, Richmond! When it comes to being centrally located to so many great places, there’s nowhere like the Historic Richmond Region. History buffs can find all they’d ever want to know about the beginning and transformation of this great nation right at their doorstep. Richmond is just two hours from our nation’s capital, the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and miles of serene coastline at Virginia Beach.  Our city is a small metropolitan area where the cost of living is reasonable and long commutes are unheard of–  yet, still large enough to have great music, great restaurants and great schools. Richmond boasts cultural and arts events, including a minor league baseball team, a symphony orchestra and a professional ballet company, festivals throughout the year– including, but not limited to, Arts in the Park, the Richmond Jazz Festival, Watermelon Festival, Henrico Kite Festival, and the Richmond Greek Festival.   Did we mention that the 17th Street Farmer’s Market is one of the oldest public markets in the nation?  It’s been in existence since 1737!  And for the football fans, Richmond is the proud host of the NFL’s Washington Redskins’ training camp each summer.  There are also great museums, fantastic restaurants and plenty of places to shop. The University of RichmondVirginia Commonwealth University and Virginia Union University call the city home. But don’t take our word for it…experience how wonderful the Richmond metropolitan area is for yourself!
