Owning and operating transmission line assets are not part of our business plan at ODEC. On the other hand, we do make exceptions when taking ownership ensures reliable, low cost service to our members. Following are two such examples:
ODEC owns nearly 100 miles of 69-kilovolt transmission lines on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, which we purchased from Delmarva Power as part of the sale of its Virginia service territory to ODEC member A&N Electric Cooperative.
In conjunction with the ODEC Rock Spring Generation Facility, we co-own approximately 1,000 feet of 500-kilovolt transmission line in Cecil County, Maryland.
We work with our transmission providers and member cooperatives to ensure the most reliable level of service possible.
We contract transmission service from our providers by way of FERC-approved agreements under the PJM open access transmission tariff.
We coordinate long-term planning activities with our transmission providers on behalf of our members to ensure adequate facilities to meet future energy needs.
Our transmission group focuses on the PJM Regional Transmission Expansion Plan to ensure that the future transmission system meets the needs of ODEC member co-ops.
For ODEC compliance on behalf of our members as a Distribution Provider and Load Serving entity, we are registered with NERC, ReliabilityFirst and SERC Corporations.
For ODEC compliance as a Generation Owner, Generation Operator and as a Purchasing-Selling Entity, we are also registered NERC, ReliabilityFirst and SERC Corporation.
