ODEC owns an 11.6 percent interest in Dominion Virginia Power's North Anna Nuclear Power Station located in Louisa County, Virginia.
Named for the North Anna River, which was dammed to form the 9,600-acre Lake Anna reservoir and the 3,400-acre waste heat treatment facility that supply its cooling water, the station's two generating units have a combined capacity of 1,844 megawatts, enough electricity to power 450,000 homes. Unit 1 began commercial operation in 1978 and Unit 2 in 1980 at a combined construction cost of approximately $1.3 billion.
The North Anna Power Station is among the lowest-cost nuclear generating stations in the nation and ranks in the top quartile of nuclear stations nationwide that produce the lowest-cost electricity.
What’s more, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations rate North Anna as one of the safest and most productive nuclear power stations in the nation.
