Power companies use wood, wood byproducts, warm-season grasses and agricultural waste products, collectively known as biomass, as a source of renewable energy. Biomass causes no net increase in carbon dioxide emissions and thus does not exacerbate climate change. What’s more, biomass can dispose of waste materials that would otherwise fill landfills or create other environmental risks. We do not currently have biomass in our energy-producing portfolio at ODEC. That said, we are investigating its potential as a future source of renewable energy.
