About ODEC®

ODEC is an electric generation and transmission (G&T) cooperative. We are a regional, member-owned power supplier formed in 1948 to provide power to a consortium of electric distribution cooperatives.

Our core business is generating, purchasing and delivering electricity to wholesale customers, primarily our member systems.

ODEC is a not-for-profit member-owned cooperative and has no capital stock. We follow the 7 principles of cooperatives. Qualifications for membership and the rights and obligations of our members are defined by law and established in the corporate bylaws.

ODEC’s power is provided by a combination of owned baseload and peaking power plants that use coal, natural gas and nuclear as their primary fuels, and a purchased power portfolio which includes renewable resource technologies.

At ODEC, we are dedicated to being both reliable energy providers and responsible environmental stewards.  We work hard every day to support our community while reducing our environmental footprint.  This commitment is detailed in ODEC's Sustainability Report.

In 2012, our 11 members served over 550,000 retail electric consumers (meters), representing approximately 1.2 million member-owners along 59,000 miles of line.  The service territories of our members cover large portions of Virginia, Maryland and Delaware ranging from the extended suburbs of Washington, DC to the Atlantic shores of these three beautiful states to the Appalachian Mountains and the North Carolina border.

Our corporate headquarters are located in Glen Allen, Virginia.
